SYRIA

Syria is one of the earliest home of civilization. Its good ancient land witnessed the first probing for human progress and advancement in history more than 8000 years ago. Even at that early date, the plough tilled its soil; oars smote sea waves along its coast; its earth and rocks were used to build villages, settlements and metal entered its every day life at Tell Half, Ugarit. Mari. Ebla and other centers. Its central position at the Silk Road between east & west, served as the great world center of cultural activity, interaction & radiation.

Spots of attraction:

In Syria they are countless. It is enough to know that there are about 3000 historical site: therefore we only identify the main spots of attraction:

Damascus:

An immortal city vies for the title (The Oldest Inhabited on Earth). Its old monuments & lanes narrate the history of dozens of conquerors. The Omayyad mosque is a bright example of its timelessness as it was a temple three thousand years ago.
 

 

Aleppo:

New studies proved that Aleppo is the same; based on this city three thousand years ago. The mythology has it that Abraham camped here. The French poet Lamartine found in it a good refugee for inspiration. The eastern part of the city is full of mystery. The giant castle. souqs & caravanserais are one of the fairy tales.

Palmyra:

Palmyra is like a pearl in the heart of the desert, rising from the sands. It is one of the most graceful and splendid ancient sites in the East, for its glory and greatness are still evident and fully 2000 years after its construction by the Arabs. Queen Zenobia. It remains one of the most famous capitals of the ancient world.
An outstanding site of beauty worth total admiration; The caravan city of Palmyra is mentioned on tablets dating back to 19th century BC. An oasis flows on an ocean of steppe. Her daughter Zanobia was so ambitious to give her mother a wide fame but prevented by the Romans who brought her end in 272 A.D.

Krak des Chevaliers:

"The best wholly admirable castle in the world " A supreme example & one of the great buildings of all times " It was raised up by the Crusaders in 1110 AD. In spite of the mighty (Conquerors & the severe earthquakes. it lasted in the hands of the Crusaders for 162 years.

Ma'alula:

In Ma'alula, the Syrian village which springs from the rocks and which witnessed the birth of Christianity, the Bible stories live again. Time seems to stand still in this historic village. The language of its people is Aramaic, the language of Jesus which is conveyed orally from parents to children, being a spoken and not a written language. This pure and rich culture in a historic place inspires the visitor to discovery and wonderment.

Damascus the capital is considered the oldest city in the world. The alphabet found carved a mud tablet in Ugarit is the first alphabet known to history.
We find in Syria the oldest buildings, the oldest language and the oldest religions. Syria was a bridge between the East and West and a meeting place for many nations.
For thousands of years the area between the Euphrates and the Mediterranean was a theater for historical change. It was both a battlefield and a front where old superpowers gathered. It is here that Egypt, Babylonia, and the old eastern empires met. Discover by yourself the remains of the civilizations of Mari and Ugarit. The cities of Zenobia, as well as those of Greece, Rome, Assyria, Sumerian and Phoenicia. Likewise. Homs with its tomb of Khaled Ibn AI Walid the splendid mosaics of Apamia and the great burial places dating from the earliest Christians.
These ancient pearls of the Syrian Desert shine forever.
