Lebanon, Syria & Jordan 08 days, 07 nights

 

Day 01: Beirut
Arrival at Beirut airport to be met & assisted by the assigned guide, after visa formalities; we transfer to the hotel for dinner & overnight

Day 02: Beirut / Ba'alback / Safita
Short sightseeing of Beirut the Lebanese capital; after that we take a city tour along the Roche, Pigeons Rock and visit the cliff side caves of the old city center. Then we visit the recent excavated sites that revealed the remains of Ottoman, Umayyad, Byzantine, Roman, Greek Orthodox and Greek Catholic Churches, the Clock Tower, grand serials, Roman bathes… We also visit the reconstruction and extensive rebuilding works of the destroyed down town. Then we visit the American University & the Museum of Beirut. After that we transfer to visit Lebanon's greatest Greco-Roman treasure Ba'alback, this great Acropolis encompasses the temple of Bacchus, Venus and Jupiter. The perfect harmony of the site's proportions and the massive scale of dimensions strike the visitor. The columns are the tallest ever erected, stones are the largest ever been cut and the whole group of temples are the biggest of its kind ever build. Lunch is to be taken in Ba'alback, after that we leave Lebanon and head towards the border of Syria; dinner & overnight will be in Safita.

Day 03: Safita / Crack des Chevaliers / Palmyra
After breakfast, we visit the tower of Safita; then we leave to Crack des Chevaliers "the most wholly admirable castle in the world" as Lawrence of Arabia commented. After visiting the fortress we have our lunch then head to Palmyra for dinner & overnight.

Day 04: Palmyra
Full day sightseeing of Palmyra, one of the greatest trading posts on the antique road; then we visit the museum, the temple of God Bel, the monumental arch, the viarecta, the Agora and the tower tombs… Lunch is to be taken at a local restaurant, and in the end of the day we watch the sunset at Ibn Ma'an Castle. Dinner & overnight at the hotel

Day 05: Palmyra / Damascus / Bosra
An early departure from Palmyra heading to Damascus for a full day city sightseeing including: National Museum, St. Ananias Chapel, St. Paul's Window, The Straight Street, Azem Palace, Umayyad Mosque and the tomb of the Islamic hero Saladin. Lunch at a local restaurant, and then we head to watch a panoramic view of Damascus from 350 meters above the city level over Qasioun Mountain. At the end of the day we drive to Bosra in the southern part of Syria, check in the hotel for dinner & O/N

Day 06: Bosra / Jerash / Petra
We start with the sightseeing of Bosra including the Roman Theater, baths, lantern gate, underground market and the wind gate. Crossing the Syrian/Jordanian border; we hit the road to the ancient city of Jerash, here at a well-watered site are the hills of Gilead, and one can see remains from the Neolithic times as well as Greek, Byzantine, Umayyad & others. There we can see Artimis temple, Zeus temple, a vast Roman street of columns. After this wonderful tour; it is time to experience our first meal in Jordan. Then we proceed to Petra for dinner & O/N.

Day 07: Petra
Early breakfast, we start discovering the legacy of the Nabateans. Petra's most famous monument; the treasury, appears dramatically at the end of Siq. This towering façade is the first Petra's secrets. Various walks & climbs reveal literally hundreds of buildings, facades, tombs, baths & hunting rock drawings and relieves. And then we see a 7000 seat theater that goes back to Jesus' times, a palace tomb with Roman style & a gigantic third century monastery (Deir). Lunch to be taken at a local restaurant during our visit, and then we head back to the hotel for dinner & O/N.

Day 08: Petra / Dead Sea / Madaba / Mt. Nebo / Departure
After breakfast, we leave Petra to the lowest spots on earth, the one & only Dead Sea where you can relax in the gentle & warm water, after this unforgettable experience we have a favored stop in Madaba (the city of Mosaic) where we have sightseeing & lunch. Somewhere farther east is the most revered site in Biblical Jordan; Mount Nebo. It was a small square church that was build by early Byzantine Christians & later expanded into a vast complex 60 years of excavations reveal a Basilica – Church & a large cluster of monastic buildings. Dinner at a local restaurant and then head to Amman airport for departure
