 A Deep Rose Colored Morganite

Syria 10 days, 09 nights

 

With two exceptions, Syria’s geographical faults are covered in this itinerary. Instead of the blue color of the Mediterranean Sea, we explore the east sea of sands, grains and sites beside the north and the south region.

 

Day 01: Arrival Damascus
Arrive at Damascus Airport to be met and assisted by your Silk Road assigned guide. Transfer to your hotel, dinner and overnight.

Day 02: Damascus

After breakfast, we drive to the National Museum of Damascus then head to the old quarter to visit the folklore Museum which is a typical of 17thcentury Damascene house. We visit as well the Umayyad Mosque and the tomb of the hero of Islam Saladin. Lunch is included in a local restaurant. Afternoon, we continue the sightseeing, heading to the straight street, St. Paul’s window and St. Ananias chapel, at the end of the day we enjoy the panoramic view from Qasion Mountain which is 350 meters above the city level. Back to hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 03: Damascus / Palmyra
After breakfast, we depart for a long way drive to Palmyra, one of the greatest trading posts on the antique Silk Road. We visit the Museum, the temple of God Bel, the monumental arch, the Viarecta, the agora and see some of the tower tombs, etc. Lunch is in a local restaurant. We drive to Ibn Maan Castle to view the sunset, we end at the hotel in Palmyra. We check in, dine & wine and overnight.

Day 04: Palmyra / Dura-Europos / Mari / Deir Ezzor

After breakfast, we head east of Palmyra to the Euphrates basin to visit the ruins of Dura-Europos, a historical town built by Seleucus Nicator. We continue the visit to the archeological site of Mari, a great kingdom flourished in the third millennium B.C. Drive to Deir Ezzor for dinner and overnight

Day 05: Deir Ezzor / Halabia / Resafa / Aleppo
After breakfast, we head up the stream to visit Halabia, a fort built by the Palmyreans to look after their affairs in the east. We go on to visit Resafa, a 5th century Christian holly town. You will also visit the Isalmic Jabar castle and Al Assad dam on the Euphrates. This time, we follow the sunset to Aleppo city for dinner and overnight

Day 06: Aleppo

After breakfast, we leave for a full day sightseeing of Aleppo to include the archeological Museum, the citadel of Aleppo, the Grand Mosque.

Lunch is in a nice local restaurant. We continue the sightseeing by visiting the bazaars & the caravanserais of Aleppo. Back to the hotel for dinner and overnight

Day 07: Aleppo / St. Simeon / Ebla / Apamea / Hama
After breakfast, we leave Aleppo for a morning visit to St. Simeon cathedral; St. Simeon is considered the greatest hierarchy of all times. Lunch is in a local restaurant in Aleppo. This afternoon, we head to the south through the fertile countryside to visit Ebla. In Apamea, as we get there we visit the main avenue, Antony & Queen Cleopatra once strolled in this street. We continue the visit to cathedral, the palace and the mosaic museum. Then drive to Hama for dinner and overnight.

Day 08: Hama / Homs / Crac des Chevaliers / Damascus

After breakfast, we depart Hama to Homs. In Homs we visit Khaled Ibn Al-Walid Mosque, an Islamic leader who conquered Syria in the 07 century AD. We visit also the church of Um-Alzunar, a belt found in this church said to be the belt of the virgin Mari. We continue our visit to Crac des Chevaliers; later on, we leave the castle towards Maaloula, the picturesque village on Qalamoun Mountain.

We get to Damascus with the sun, we check in at the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 09: Damascus / Shahba / Sweida / Bosra / Damascus
After breakfast, we go for a full day excursion to the south to visit the basaltic hills and to view the great monuments of Sweida, Shahba & Bosra who is enormous edifices built of hard basaltic stones reveal a glorious past. Back to Damascus hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 10: Departure Damascus

Transfer to Damascus Airport for departure or to combined with Lebanon.
